Model United Nations

As seen in Pegasus Pages, March 2013, and the Gloucestershire Echo (13th May, 2013).

On Sunday, 10th March, the Cheltenham Ladies’ College and Eton College joined together for a Model United Nations conference hosted at the Ladies’ College. The two topics that were debated were: the role of R2P in achieving peace and stability in the African continent and the question over establishing a Nuclear-Weapon-Free-Zone in the Middle East.

Students were each given a country to represent and took part in proposing and debating resolutions within a mock General Assembly.

The day was interesting as well as entertaining, with both CLC and Eton contributing some very well put forward arguments. The Chair’s Best Delegate Award went to Charlotte Jiang from CLC, and a joint award was presented to Harry Elliott and Jamie Collings from Eton College. The afternoon was a huge success filled and everyone gained a better understanding as to the intricacies of the United Nations.

The girls would like to thank their two Model United Nations teachers: Mr Forward-Davies and Miss Bamford, and also to two sixth formers, Mira Haqqani and Samirah Musasizi, for organising what was a wonderful event. CLC hope that the conference will be repeated again in the future.
